Issue:
challenger-front

In issue 10-06 we took you through the beginnings of what is one really nice and unique 73 Challenger. A quick recap; take one part 73 Challenger add one part 06 Magnum, Ok a pile of one and a pile of another and what do you get? If you look at the VIN number, it will tell you that the car is definitely a 73 Challenger. If you were to drive into a Dodge dealership and plug the car into one of their computers, it will tell you that it is a 06 Magnum. Owner and builder Pete Richter blended two generations of Mopar into a car that he and his family just can’t get enough of. They drive it everywhere.

Let’s see what he pulled off.

Tech Tip

Did you know that the hook on your measuring tape is supposed to be loose? Yes that hook is designed to slide back and forth on you tape , it’s not that the tape is defective or worn out.. You will notice that this movement is equal to the thickness of the hook so that when you measure the inside of something vs taking a measurement from the outside the over distance can be the same. Try it out, you’ll see.

"Then, I'm going to drive the p*ss out of it!”

As the owner and builder are a mere twenty five hundred miles apart, communicating can usually be a bit drawn out and adding on that the owner is also a MD doesn’t help. I just had to use an excerpt from this conversation. It says it all, this guy is a car guy, no mistake about it!

“My buddy Chris has tolerated my whining about wanting something like a Lotus 7, but somehow different since our high school days... I liked the idea of a wildly-maneuverable European roadster, but wanted something much more aggressive. Bruce put this poorly-formed yearning to paper and Byron of course has made it more 3D. I have really enjoyed the pursuit of what I wanted being unattached to any particular car's lineage. People either get it or don't - the latter group doesn't really phase me. Although perhaps my car has no pedigree, it has infinite degrees of freedom compared to something shackled to historical accuracy. I really admire the skill it takes to achieve fine aesthetics, and this has really let all these talented guys around me express their art. Then, I'm going to drive the p*ss out of it!”
