This is exactly how our shifter arrived, all nicely shrink wrapped and layed out.
-
After unpacking these are all of the components within the box.
-
Thanks Todd, we did have all of the required parts and the quality of the components were what we have come to expect from Lokar, top notch.
-
You will want to place the main shifter plate with the setscrew hole facing the front of the transmission.
-
Next take the two aluminum plugs found in the supplied bag and place them within the two bosses on either side of the transmission. You may need to clean these out and remove the paint to have them fit in properly.
-
You will want to loosely attach the two side mounting brackets to the main plate as shown using six of the supplied 5/16-24x1/2 bolts and lock washers.
If you are following along in the instructions you will notice that there is no indication as to which bracket is left or right. The right and left side are not marked on the parts, pictured is the right side bracket. -
To attach the rear mounting bracket you will need to remove the two top bolts holding the tail shaft cover on.
Take the two supplied 3/8-24x1 bolts and lock washers and loosely attach the rear mounting bracket as shown. -
Loosely attach the main plate to the rear mounting bracket using the two remaining 5/16-24x1/2 bolts and lock washers.
-
Next thread in the two supplied 3/8-24x1 tension bolts through the side brackets into the bosses on each side of the transmission
You will want to thread them in as far as you can until just before the bracket starts to be pushed away from the case. -
Use the two supplied 3/8-24 jam nuts, one on each side, to tighten the jam bolt into place. This is done by holding the jam bolt in place with a ratchet and tightening the jam nut.
-
Now you will want to tighten the rear mounting bracket to the transmission.
-
Tighten all of the remaining bolts on the main plate starting from the front backwards alternating sides on the way to the back.
-
Your assembled shifter base should look as shown.
-
Take the supplied assembled shifter assembly and remove the bottom 4 bolts and locknuts. Place the shifter in one of the two open positions on the main plate and replace the bolts and lock nuts.
-
This is how your shifter assembly should look on the main plate.
-
Place your transmission into PARK and then instal the shift arm as shown.
-
Thread one end of the supplied threaded rod as far into the previously installed shift arm as possible then spin the nut down and tighten.
-
Move the shifter to PARK, attach the remaining ball joint to the shifter arm and mark the threaded rod just short of where the barrel meats the ball joint.
Because this assembly will be going in a future project vehicle we haven't yet cut this rod. Be sure that you check the placement of the shifter and the linkage prior to any cuts. -
Take the two remaining tension bolts and thread them into the setscrew holes and snug them up against the transmission to provide additional support.
-
